As you are aware, a novel (new) coronavirus that has not previously been seen in humans was identified in late 2019. The virus is called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and the disease that it causes is called Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
COVID-19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways.
It can take anywhere from 2 to 14 days for symptoms of coronavirus to appear. The symptoms can be similar to that of the common cold and flu.
Common symptoms of coronavirus include:
- A fever (high temperature - 38 degrees Celsius or above)
- A cough - this can be any kind of cough, not just dry
- Shortness of breath or breathing difficulties
- A loss of smell or taste
It is imperative that we all work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Ireland by following the guidance given by the HSE.
If we fail to stop the spread the COVID-19 we risk death, serious illness and the economic downturn of the country.
The Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD, on Saturday, 9 May 2020 published the National “Return to Work Safely Protocol”. The Protocol clearly and comprehensively sets out the steps and processes that businesses must take to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace.
